In the post cold war environment, defence budgets are cut and aircraft programs loose their importance. No longer is Russia the perceived threat. For the new potential enemy, a less capable and therefore less expensive solution is considered adequate. Enter the dual role, Reconnaissance / light attack helicopter. Boeing - Sikorsky's RAH66 Comanche.
The Comanche embodies the new stealth technology as much as is possible, with low radar, infra-red, and audio signature. It's Fan in tail design and internal weapons storage will help with this goal. It is expected to enter service in 2003.
